Jane and GillyHello
and welcome!
I'm Jane Augenstein, owner and sole operator of Liberty Homestead Rugs. I live
in scenic southeast Ohio on a beautiful farm with my husband. We have five
dogs, one cat, a painted donkey and my rescue horse, Gilly.
For the past ten years I have hooked primitive 19th century style rugs. These
unique pieces are made from 100% hand dyed wool and are hooked on a fine linen
backing. I use original designs as well as some I have adapted
from antique rugs. My pieces are not like a painting or photograph, but
that of early renditions of Americana Folk Art. My work has been judged museum
quality and has appeared in Early American Life magazines Directory of
Traditional American Crafters from 2004 - 2007
My grandmother taught me the beauty of hand crafting items by way of
crocheting, quilting and sewing on a treadle machine. I have found that
creating art with my hands is a very rewarding and joyful skill. In 2000 I
signed up for a rug hooking course locally and found this to be my true
passion. With my love of horses stemming back to childhood, it seems only
natural that I combine that love with my passion for creating equine portrait
rugs.
And so it is with that I am happy to announce that I am available to create a one of a kind rug just for you. You can showcase your beautiful horse, mule or donkey in a piece of art that will transcend time and be passed along to future generations.
